PORTRAIT PROCEDURE AND FEES 2013

The portrait procedure begins with an initial discussion usually by phone of all the elements to be considered.

Mood
Color preferences and clothing
Outdoor or indoor background
Size of canvas
Number of figures to be painted
Lighting and atmosphere
Setting in which the portrait will hang

A meeting and photo session will then be scheduled. Susan enjoys spending time with her subjects, getting to know them and observing their special qualities and unique characteristics. During this time she will take numerous photographs in varying poses and make color notes of certain details. The photos are subsequently displayed for viewing and client and artist together will select the most appropriate pose for the portrait. The final price is determined and a contract of agreement will be signed. In keeping with standard portrait professional practices, a nonrefundable deposit of 50% is due at this time. The deposit will reserve a place on the painting schedule and will hold the price at its current level. An approximate date of completion will be given. With the client's approval of the selected pose, the artist returns to her studio to proceed with the painting.

Upon completion of the portrait, the artist will deliver (or ship if necessary) the painting to the client and will be happy to make frame recommendations upon request. The balance of the commission is due when the painting is accepted. The artist's intention is to create a work of art which will bring satisfaction, delight, and enjoyment for years to come.

CHILD/ ADULT
Head and shoulders $4000 / $5000
Half figure with hands $6000 /  $7000
Three quarters figure $8000 / $9000
Full length figure $10,000 / $15,000
For multiple figures, add 50% per figure. For complex backgrounds or pets, add 30%. The fee schedule allows for the figures to be approximately life size. All portraits are painted with the finest oils and on premium linen canvas. Price does not include travel, frame, shipping, or sales tax, if applicable.
